Is it just me or does it seem like this week took 10 days to complete? The combo of the short week before and then 4 days off really seems to make the week after the Thanksgiving Holiday really lag. Oh well. At least today is Friday.

I have the feeling it is going to be an awesome week.

On the family front the girls are feeling better which is a huge relief. Eva is still on her breathing meds but is breathing 100% normally now. Emma is of course, her energetic self.

Also work is buzzing with activity. In the last month I have had 4 or 5 key employees join the engineering team and it is starting to show. Between the new employees and the current ones we have a really kickass team. Combine that with the amazing stuff the product folks are churning out and I think Tremor should have a very interesting 2008 from a dev and product perspective.

Lastly, I am heading out to San Francisco for the NewTeeVee Conference. This should be an interesting event with a lot of Silicon Valley influence. I am interested to see how it contrasts to the Madison Avenue slanted conferences we get here in NY. Also interested to meetup with some of the speakers and attendees. If you are going let me know and we can hook up.

Are we in another bubble? I dont think so, at least not like the last one. A colleague sent me this article though and asked me what I thought. This is what I responded with.

Seems like kind of a bent article. They talk about the acquisition of the ad networks/servers (which generate revenue and profits) and then in the same breath talk about 2.0 apps with little to no revenue generation. Kind of confusing the argument. I think Andreessen is right on when he says its the price of getting in on the next wave. Yes IBMs revenues may be bigger than GOOGs right now but what does the growth pattern look like for both companies? GOOG didn’t exist much more than 10 years ago and is now challenging some of the largest corps out there. The writer does a great job of molding the facts to fit the desired story though.

Well we made it back from the vacation safe and sound. It was nice to take the time away and just hang with the family but it is nice to be back as well. So many things going on at work, the girls have a whole new set of classes and the city itself is buzzing. It doesnt hurt that the weather has been positively Summer like as well.

All in all its been an excellent start to Autumn. I hope everyone else is doing well and thanks again to everybody who hosted us on our trip. It was truly a pleasure to see you all and we look forward to doing it again soon eh!

Man, it seems like my upcoming vacation has really crept up on me. All of a sudden I am cramming to get all the things done that need to be done before I can safely step away. Narrowing down the must have tasks and how to accomplish them, in your absence, is always a challenge. I have found that going away seems to be when people really realize what you do (or dont do as the case may be). Luckily for Tremor we have assembled a pretty crack team on the tech side that is almost ready to run itself. I am certain they will perform splendidly in my absence (probably get more done than when I am around to pester them as well).

On another note, the Apple invasion continues. I am typing this from an iMac. I now use windows only for testing really. The BSD ports tree for Mac combined with Quicksilver and I am finding myself enjoying computing again. Its turned it back into a passion again. See how long that lasts eh. Also if any of you happened to purchase an iphone in the last couple of weeks dont forget to phone apple and get a refund on the difference. The 20 minute wait on hold with the returns dept was well worth the $200 dollars credited back to me.

Lastly, for those of you who dont know, I am headed up to visit family and friends in Victoria for a couple weeks starting on Monday. Posting and twittering should be light (no really, it can get even more infrequent). It should be an adventure as I havent really hung out or visited for about a decade or more (I grew up there). If you are in the Victoria area though give me a shout and we can hook up.

Congrats to Dave Morgan and the gang over at Tacoda. You can read more about it here. Having worked with them as a partner I can say they are a first class crew and AOL has made a very smart purchase.

Not sure on their current revenues but I am guessing the $275M acquisition price comes in at a nice multiple. Looks like the ad network acquisition binge may not be over yet.

A million balls in the air right now it seems (mostly work). And the beauty of it is that it all seems somewhat manageable. I think since moving into the city I have just that much more time on my hands to get done what needs to get done. To top it all of it is my birthday on Thursday!

Right now I dont think I could imagine a much nicer summer. Enjoying my girls, the city and the life.

Screenspace that is. In my quest to be ever more productive and very much geeky at the same time I tricked out my office a bit. Took an old receiver and speakers and installed 5:1 surround sound system. Then I added another video card to the PC and put a 3rd monitor on my desk. Something was still missing though. Since I had a connection for yet another monitor I got creative. As you can see in the picture below I bought a wall mount and put the 4th monitor on the wall. I can now drag powerpoints, videos etc up to the wall to watch or show to others.

I don’t know how much more productive I will be but it sure is geeky!

As most or some or maybe all of you know I work for a startup called Tremor Media. Every month we get together all the relevant metrics we can gather, list all our accomplishments, tally all the revenue numbers and package it up into a set of slides, spreadsheets and other related materials. It is an interesting exercise to have to examine what you have done over the last month and boil down the most interesting or relevant items. It then even gets more interesting to examine it at a macro level.

Thankfully we work with some very strong VC firms (Masthead and Canaan) and have great representatives working with us on our board. It is definitely the most high level insight I have gotten into the inner workings of a BoD for a startup company. It doesnt hurt that we are in a white hot space with innovation and acquisitions occurring at every turn.

Never a dull moment that is for sure!

UPDATED: Yeah the whole point of this long winded post, I have a board meeting tomorrow. Expect low twitterage and less blogging :-)

Well we aren’t there yet but today sure feels like a good start. Going to get to about 90 today in the city. Not a bad way to begin the Memorial Day weekend. Shutting down the office at 3 today so everyone can enjoy it (well everyone who works at Tremor anyway).
